Hotel Description

History: Richards Bay was named after the British naval commander Rear Admiral Sir Frederick William Richards, who landed troops on this part of the Zululand coast in 1879. It was basically little less than a small fishing village until the port was opened in 1976. It is now a vibrant, bustling town and a very popular north coast holiday destination.
Arts and Culture: The authorities of Richards Bay have developed the interesting concept of Industrial Tourism. The idea is that the industries of the town get promoted and the curious traveller, or those interested in science, can visit the enormous operations of Richards Bay Minerals as well as the largest natural harbour in South Africa.
Science and Nature: Some of South Africa's most amazing wetland scenery can be experienced at the Richards Bay Game Reserve, a lagoon where aquatic birds and animal species including hippos and crocodiles are protected. The industry of the town is strong. Richards Bay Minerals is a world leader in sand mining and mineral processing, and owing to five mining operations areas it is one of the largest mining centres in South Africa. Aluminium mining is also an important industry in the Richards Bay vicinity.
Entertainment: With lovely scenery and unspoilt beaches the town is becoming popular with holidaymakers. It is the one of the closest seaside towns to Gauteng and the warm year-round climate means that outdoors enthusiasts are well catered for. Visitors can watch dolphins and whales from the beach, and with a 4x4, crocodile and hippo can be viewed further up the shore.
